Egyptian Chicken Tagine
A traditional Moroccan stew originating from Egypt, made with chicken and spices.
Ingredients
- β1.5 pounds chicken breastcut into small pieces
- β1 cup quenched almondschopped
- β2 teaspoons egyptian dishes cumin
- β1 teaspoon ground ginger
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons olive oil
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β1 can diced tomatoes14.5 oz
- β1 cup chicken broth
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
Instructions

Heat oil in a large clay pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add cumin, ginger, garlic, onion, and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add tomatoes, broth, salt, and pepper. Stir well.

Cover the pot and cook for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

Garnish with almonds and serve over rice or couscous.

Optional: Serve with a dollop of yogurt or a sprinkle of sumac.

Note: Traditionally, this dish is cooked in a clay tagine pot, which allows for even heat distribution and a delicious crust on the bottom.

If you don't have a tagine pot, a Dutch oven or large clay pot will work just as well.
