British Shepherd's Pie
A classic British comfort dish made with ground meat, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. Shepherd's Pie is a hearty, satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- β500g ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio works well
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotchopped
- β1 bunch collardschopped
- β1 cup mushroomsliced
- β2 tbsp all-purpose flourfor thickening gravy
- β1 cup beef brothhomemade or store-bought
- β1 cup milkwhole or 2%
- β2 tbsp butterunsalted
- βto taste salt
- βto taste pepper
- β4-6 servings mashed potatosee note for recipe

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large pan over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add chopped onion, carrot, and mushroom to the pan and cook until the vegetables are softened.

Stir in flour to thicken the gravy, then add beef broth and bring to a simmer.

Add chopped collards to the pan and cook until wilted.

Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer the mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Top with mashed potatoes, spreading them evenly to cover the top.

Dot the top of the potatoes with butter.
