Songpyeon with Chive and Korean Chili Flakes
A traditional Korean tteokbokki-inspired recipe featuring chewy rice cakes and a spicy kick.
Ingredients
- β1 cup Songpyeon rice cakesavailable at Korean grocery stores or online
- β1/4 cup Chiveschopped
- β2 tsp Korean chili flakesgochugaru
- β2 tbsp Vegetable oilfor frying
- β2 tbsp Soy saucedivided
- β1 tsp GochujangKorean chili paste
- β1 tsp Brown sugaroptional, for sweetness
- β1/4 tsp Saltto taste
Instructions

Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the songpyeon rice cakes and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.

Remove the rice cakes from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tbsp vegetable oil over medium heat.

Add the chopped chives and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add the gochujang and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the soy sauce and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add the brown sugar (if using) and cook for 1 minute.

Return the rice cakes to the skillet and toss with the sauce until well combined.
