Slovakian Custard Cake
A traditional Slovakian dessert, this custard cake is rich, crumbly, and utterly delicious.
Ingredients
- β400g Rich custardsee below for custard recipe
- β1 package Slovakian pastryfound in most European bakeries
- β250ml Milkwhole milk for best results
- β200g Granulated sugaradjust to taste
- β4 Large eggsroom temperature for best results
- β250g All-purpose flourfor pastry crust
- β100g Unsalted butter, meltedfor pastry crust

Preheat oven to 180Β°C.

Make the custard by whisking together the milk, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract in a medium saucepan.

Cook the custard over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.

Strain the custard into a clean bowl and let cool.

Roll out the Slovakian pastry and place in a 23cm springform pan.

Spread the cooled custard over the pastry, leaving a 2cm border around the edges.

Fold the edges of the pastry up over the custard to form a crust.

Brush the pastry with melted butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

Let cool completely before serving.
