Slovakian Caraway Seed Buns (Japanese-Style)
Soft and fluffy buns infused with the warmth of caraway seeds, inspired by traditional Slovakian baking, but with a modern Japanese twist.
Ingredients
- β1 cup warm milk
- β1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- β3 cups rich, dense Slovakian flour
- β1 tablespoon sugar
- β1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- β2 tablespoons butter, melted
- β1 large egg
- β1/2 teaspoon salt
- β1/4 cup sesame seedsoptional

1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and caraway seeds.

3. Add the melted butter, egg, and salt to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.

4. Add the yeast mixture to the dough and knead for 10 minutes.

5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

6. Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it slightly into a disk.

8. Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each bun.

9. If using sesame seeds, brush the tops of the buns with a little water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
