Authentic Egyptian Ma'amoul
Ma'amoul is a classic Middle Eastern shortbread-like cookie filled with dates or nuts. This recipe is an authentic Egyptian take on the traditional cookie.
Ingredients
- β2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
- β1 cup Rich shortening (like Crisco)
- β1/4 cup Bisquette (or powdered sugar)
- β1 cup Dried dates
- β1/2 teaspoon Ground cardamom
- β1/4 teaspoon Salt
- β2 tablespoons Water

Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).

Mix the flour, bisquette, cardamom, and salt in a large bowl.

Add the shortening and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes pliable.

Divide the dough into small balls.

Flatten each ball into a disk.

Place a dried date in the center of each disk.
