Classic American Paella
A hearty, one-pot dish that combines the flavors of Spanish paella with American ingredients.
Ingredients
- β1 lb chicken breastcut into 1-inch pieces
- β1 lb sausagessuch as chorizo or chicken sausage
- β1 cup shrimppeeled and deveined
- β1 cup paella riceuncooked
- β1 medium tomatodiced
- β1 medium oniondiced
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 cups vegetable brothchicken or beef broth works too
- β2 tbsp olive oildivided
- β1 tsp paprikasmoked or sweet
Instructions

Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large paella pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the sausages and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes.

Add the diced onion and minced garlic and cook until the onion is translucent.

Add the diced tomato and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add the paella rice and stir to coat the rice in the oil and mix with the vegetables.

Add the vegetable broth, smoked paprika, and salt. Stir to combine.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 20-25 minutes.

Remove the cover and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
