French Russian Potato Gratin
A rich and creamy French-inspired potato gratin with a Russian twist, perfect for a cold winter night.
Ingredients
- β3 pounds russet potatoespeeled and thinly sliced
- β1 cup rich heavy creamunsalted
- β1 cup gratin cheesegrated and divided
- β2 tablespoons unsalted buttermelted
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flourfor thickening
- β1 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepperto taste

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large saucepan, combine the heavy cream, 1/2 cup of the grated cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Reduce the heat to low and let the cream mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.

In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, melted butter, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss to coat the potatoes evenly.

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, create a layer of potatoes. You can overlap them slightly.

Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes, followed by a sprinkle of grated cheese.

Repeat the layers until all the ingredients have been used, finishing with a layer of potatoes on top.

Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese over the top layer of potatoes.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top layer of potatoes is golden brown.
