Egyptian Fish Tagine
A rich and flavorful North African dish made with fish, spices, and dried fruits.
Ingredients
- β4 Fish fillets (cod or tilapia)Fresh fish, cut into 2-inch pieces
- β2 tbsp Olive oilExtra virgin olive oil
- β1 large OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1-inch piece GingerGrated
- β1 tsp CuminGround
- β1 tsp CorianderGround
- β1/2 tsp CinnamonGround
- β1/2 tsp TurmericGround
- β1/2 cup Dried apricotsChopped
- β1/4 cup Dried prunesChopped
- β1 tsp SaltTo taste
- β1/2 tsp Black pepperTo taste
Instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large clay pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for 1 minute.

Add the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and turmeric and cook for 1 minute.

Add the fish fillets and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the chopped apricots, prunes, salt, and black pepper.

Pour in 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley or cilantro, if desired.
