Argentinian Beef Empanadas
A classic South American dish filled with richly flavored beef, these empanadas are perfect for a snack or light meal.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground Beef
- β1 medium, finely chopped Onion
- β1 medium, finely chopped Red Pepper
- β1/2 pound, sliced Spiced Argentinian Sausage
- β2 cups All-purpose Flour
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
- β1, beaten (for egg wash) Egg
- β1/4 cup Water
- βsufficient to fill empanadas Rich Empanada Filling (beef, onion, red pepper, sausage)

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large pan, cook the beef, onion, and red pepper over medium-high heat, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until the mixture is browned and cooked through.

Add the sliced sausage to the pan and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper.

Gradually add the water to the flour mixture, stirring with a fork until a dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.

Roll each piece into a ball and flatten slightly into a disk shape.

Place a tablespoon or two of the beef mixture onto the center of each disk.

Fold the dough in half over the filling, pressing the edges to seal.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg for a golden glaze.

Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
