Crispy Chawanmushi with Japanese Vegetables
A Japanese-style steamed egg custard with a crispy bottom and flavorful vegetables, perfect for a light and refreshing meal.
Ingredients
- β4 chawanmushiJapanese steamed egg mixture
- β2 tablespoons vegetable oilfor cooking
- β1 cup japanese vegetablessuch as shiitake mushrooms and green beans
- β2 teaspoons soy saucefor flavor
- β1 teaspoon sugarfor balance
- β1 cup waterfor steaming
- βto taste saltfor seasoning
Instructions

Preheat steamer to high heat.

Pour chawanmushi mixture into small cups or ramekins.

Add a few slices of japanese vegetables on top of the chawanmushi.

Steam for 10-12 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the vegetables are tender.

While steaming, heat a small non-stick pan with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat.

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and let it melt.

Carefully place the cups or ramekins onto the pan with the melted oil.

Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottom is crispy and golden brown.
