Alicha Wot with Corn Fritters
A traditional Ethiopian dish, Alicha Wot is a mild and flavorful stew made with spices, onions, and a choice of protein. Paired with crispy corn fritters, this meal is a delicious and satisfying option.
Ingredients
- β2 cups RousingWater used for soaking and cooking
- β2 tablespoons EthiopianBerbere spice mix
- β2 ears CornFresh corn on the cob
- β1 cup FlourAll-purpose flour for fritter batter
- β1 cup KikSplit red lentils
- β2 tablespoons AlichaSpice mix for the wot

Soak the kik (lentils) in the rousing (water) for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened.

Add the Berbere spice mix (Ethiopian) and cook for 1 minute.

Add the kik (lentils) and 2 cups of rousing (water). Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer.

Cook the corn on the cob by boiling in water until tender. Set aside.

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, a pinch of salt, and a dash of water to make the fritter batter.

Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Drop spoonfuls of the fritter batter into the oil and fry until crispy and golden.
