Classic Saudi Arabian Chicken Tagine
A flavorful and aromatic dish from Saudi Arabia, made with tender chicken, sweet dates, and a rich spice blend.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Chicken breast or thighsboneless and skinless
- β8-10 Salty datespitted
- β1/2 cup Crispy onionsfinely chopped
- β2 tablespoons Arabian spice blendavailable at most Middle Eastern markets
- β2 tablespoons Ghee or vegetable oilfor cooking
Instructions

Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee or oil in the bottom of a large clay or ceramic tagine or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add the chopped onions and cook until they start to soften, about 5 minutes.

Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the Arabian spice blend and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the dates and enough water to cover the chicken and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is tender.
