Croatian Beef Stew
A hearty and savory stew inspired by Croatian cuisine, made with tender beef and a variety of spices.
Ingredients
- β1 pound BeefCut into bite-sized pieces

- β2 tablespoons StirUse as desired for seasoning
- β2 tablespoons FryUse as desired for seasoning
- β2 medium CarrotsPeel and chop into bite-sized pieces
- β2 medium PotatoesPeel and chop into bite-sized pieces
- β1 medium OnionChop into small pieces
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1 cup Red wineUse a dry red wine for best flavor
- β4 cups Vegetable brothUse low-sodium broth for best flavor
Instructions

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the chopped carrots and potatoes to the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Add the red wine to the pot and cook until the liquid is almost completely reduced, about 10 minutes.

Add the vegetable broth to the pot and stir to combine.

Return the beef to the pot and bring the stew to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
