Algerian Cacao and Silky Chickpea Tagine
A flavorful and comforting North African-inspired stew made with chickpeas, cacao, and silky smooth spices.
Ingredients
- β1 can (14.5 oz) Chickpeas
- β2 tsp Silky Smooth Spices (Berbere)Or substitute with a mix of cumin, coriander, and cinnamon
- β1 tsp Algerian Cumin
- β2 tbsp Cacao PowderAdds depth and a hint of bitterness to the stew
- β2 tbsp Olive Oil
- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β2 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1/4 cup Chopped Fresh Cilantro
- β1 tsp Salt
- β1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- β2 cups Chicken Broth

Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the Berbere spices, Algerian cumin, cacao powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

Add the chickpeas, chicken broth, and chopped cilantro. Stir well to combine.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and let cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the stew has thickened slightly.
