Traditional German Beef Casserole
A hearty German-inspired beef casserole made with tender beef, silky mushrooms, and a hint of polish sausage. Perfect for a cozy dinner with the family.
Ingredients
- β500g ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β250ml beef broth
- β120g polish sausagesliced
- β200g silky mushroomssliced
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β1 tsp caraway seeds
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
- β2 bay leaves
- β2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Preheat the oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

Cook the ground beef in a large pan over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the sliced polish sausage and cook until browned.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.

Stir in the caraway seeds, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and start to brown.

Sprinkle the flour over the top and cook for 1 minute.

Transfer the mixture to a 20x20cm (8x8in) baking dish.

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly.
