Slovakian Braised Beef Tagine
A hearty and flavorful Slovakian dish made with slow-cooked beef, lard, and spices, all cooked to perfection in a traditional tagine.
Ingredients
- β1.5 kg beef shincut into large pieces
- β2 tablespoons lardmelted
- β1 large onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 teaspoon caraway seedsground
- β1 teaspoon paprikasweet
- β1 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepperto taste
- β2 cups beef brothhot
- β1 cup waterhot

Heat the lard in a large tagine or Dutch oven over medium heat.

Brown the beef pieces on all sides, then remove from the pot.

Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened.

Add the caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and pepper to the pot and stir to combine.

Add the beef broth and water to the pot, scraping up any browned bits.

Return the beef to the pot, cover, and bring to a boil.

Transfer the tagine to the preheated oven and braise for 2.5 hours, or until the meat is tender.

Serve the tagine hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
