Smoky German Casserole
A hearty, comforting casserole filled with smoky flavors and topped with a crispy cheese crust. Perfect for a chilly evening.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Smoked sausagesuch as knockwurst or bratwurst
- β1 large onion Caramelized onionscook until dark brown
- β1 cup German-style potato saladstore-bought or homemade
- β1 cup Shredded cheddar cheesesharp or mild, your preference
- β2 tablespoons All-purpose flourfor thickening
- β4 tablespoons Bacon bitsoptional, for added smokiness

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Cook the smoked sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, browning on all sides.

Add the caramelized onions and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Stir in the German-style potato salad and cook until heated through.

Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish.

In a separate bowl, mix together the shredded cheddar cheese and flour.

Sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
