Smoky Dutch Stew
A hearty stew made with smoky sausage, tender vegetables, and a hint of rosemary. This dish is perfect for a cold winter's day.
Ingredients
- β1 pound smoky sausagecut into bite-sized pieces
- β1 teaspoon paprikaoptional
- β2 sprigs rosemaryfresh or 1 teaspoon dried
- β1 pound dutch stew meatcut into bite-sized pieces
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotpeeled and chopped
- β2 medium potatopeeled and chopped
- β2 cups beef brothhomemade or store-bought
- β1 cup wateroptional
- βto taste saltoptional
- βto taste black pepperoptional
- β2 sprigs bay leavesfresh or 1 teaspoon dried
Instructions

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the smoky sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the sausage from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the chopped carrot and potato to the pot and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the Dutch stew meat to the pot and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the beef broth, water, paprika, rosemary, salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Return the sausage to the pot and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours, or until the meat is tender.

Remove the bay leaves and serve hot, garnished with fresh rosemary if desired.
