Sweet Eastern Ouzi
A sweet and flaky pastry filled with a creamy egg mixture, inspired by Middle Eastern flavors.
Ingredients
- β1 sheet Flaky Pastry DoughThawed and rolled out
- β2 tsp Sweet Eastern Spice MixAvailable at most Middle Eastern markets
- β4 Large EggsBeaten and mixed with sugar and spices
- β1 cup Granulated SugarAdded to the egg mixture
- β1/2 tsp Ground CardamomAdded to the egg mixture for extra flavor
- β1/4 cup Unsalted ButterMelted and brushed on the pastry
- β1/2 cup Confectioners' SugarDusted on top of the pastry before serving

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Roll out the flaky pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

In a large bowl, mix together the beaten eggs, granulated sugar, ground cardamom, and sweet eastern spice mix.

Brush the melted butter on the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

Pour the egg mixture onto one half of the pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.

Fold the other half of the pastry over the egg mixture and press the edges to seal.

Use a knife or pastry brush to create a decorative edge around the pastry.

Place the pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

Remove the pastry from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before dusting with confectioners' sugar.
