Tangy Ethiopian Lamb Stew
A flavorful and aromatic stew originating from Ethiopia, made with tender lamb and a blend of spices.
Ingredients
- β1 lb lamb shoulder
- β1 large onion
- β2 inches ginger
- β2 tsp tangy spice blend (e.g. berbere)
- β1 tsp chili powder
- β3 cloves garlic
- β2 tbsp tomato paste
- β1 can stew tomatoes
- β2 cups water
- β1/4 cup sour creamoptional

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add ginger and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Add lamb and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add spice blend, chili powder, and garlic. Cook for 1 minute.

Add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Add stew tomatoes and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.

Simmer for 1-2 hours, or until lamb is tender.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.
