Moqueca de Peixe
A traditional Portuguese dish originating from the coastal communities of the Algarve region. This recipe features a flavorful monkfish moqueca, cooked in a creamy coconut milk sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 pound monkfishcut into 1-inch pieces
- β1 can coconut milkfull-fat
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons portuguese peri-peri saucestore-bought or homemade
- β1/4 cup tender cilantrochopped
- β1 cup paella riceuncooked

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the monkfish pieces and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Add the coconut milk, peri-peri sauce, and paella rice. Stir to combine.

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook, covered, for 15 minutes.
