Braised Croatian Beef Stew
A hearty, comforting stew made with tender Croatian meat, perfect for a chilly evening.
Ingredients
- β500g Croatian ground meat
- β1 medium, chopped Onion
- β3 cloves, minced Garlic
- β2 medium, peeled and sliced Carrot
- β2 stalks, chopped Celery
- β250ml Red wine
- β500ml Beef broth
- β2 tablespoons Tomato paste
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.

Add the sliced carrot and chopped celery and cook for 5 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.

Add the Croatian ground meat and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the red wine and beef broth to the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1.5 hours, or until the meat is tender.

Stir in the tomato paste and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley or thyme, if desired.
