Chicken Empanadas Venezolanas
A traditional Venezuelan dish, these empanadas are filled with spicy chicken and are a perfect snack for any occasion.
Ingredients
- β1 pound chicken breastboneless and skinless
- β2 teaspoons unique spices (aji panca, cumin, smoked paprika)mix of aji panca and smoked paprika for a unique flavor
- β4-6 pieces empanada doughhomemade or store-bought
- β1/2 cup vegetable oilfor brushing empanadas
- β1 medium oniondiced
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1/4 cup chopped cilantrofor garnish
- β1 cup salsaoptional for serving
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Prepare the empanada dough according to package instructions or make homemade empanada dough.

In a pan, heat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil over medium heat.

Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the chicken breast and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the unique spices and cook for an additional minute.

Let the chicken cool and then shred it.

Assemble the empanadas by placing a tablespoon of the chicken mixture onto one half of the empanada dough, brush the edges with water and fold the other half over.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with the remaining vegetable oil.

Bake the empanadas in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with salsa, if desired.
