Tunisian Beef Tagine
A hearty, flavorful stew originating from Tunisia, made with tender beef and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds beef stew meat beefcut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
- β2 tablespoons tunisian spice blendavailable at most spice shops or online
- β2 tablespoons olive oiluse a good quality olive oil
- β1 large onion, chopped onionabout 2 1/2 cups
- β4 cloves, minced garlicabout 4 tablespoons
- β2 large carrots, peeled and chopped carrotsabout 2 cups
- β2 large potatoes, peeled and chopped potatoesabout 2 cups
- β2 cups chicken brothlow sodium broth
- β2 tablespoons tomato pasteoptional, for added depth of flavor
- β1 tablespoon uplifting herb mixoptional, for added brightness
Instructions

Heat the oil in the bottom of a large Dutch oven or tagine over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the carrots, potatoes, broth, tomato paste, and spice blend to the pot.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover the pot and transfer it to the oven.

Bake the stew at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Season the stew with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.

Garnish with chopped fresh herbs, such as parsley or cilantro, if desired.
