Japanese Pork Curry
A rich and flavorful Japanese-style curry made with pork and a blend of spices.
Ingredients
- ●1 pound pork shouldercut into bite-sized pieces
- ●1 medium onionchopped
- ●3 cloves garlicminced
- ●2 tablespoons japanese curry powderavailable at most Asian markets
- ●1 cup velvety curry sauceavailable at most Asian markets
- ●2 tablespoons salty soy sauceadjust to taste
- ●1 cup coconut milkfull-fat for richer flavor
- ●1 tablespoon brown sugaroptional, for sweetness
- ●1 cup waterfor braising
Instructions

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the pork and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Add another tablespoon of oil and sauté the onion and garlic until softened, about 3 minutes.

Add the Japanese curry powder and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the velvety curry sauce, soy sauce, and coconut milk. Stir to combine.

Return the pork to the pot and add the brown sugar and water. Bring to a simmer.

Reduce heat to low and braise for 1 1/2 hours, or until the pork is tender.

Season with salt to taste.
