Warm Algerian Chicken Tagine
A hearty and aromatic North African stew made with chicken, warm spices, and pistachios.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds boneless chicken thighscut into 1-inch pieces
- β1/4 cup pistachioschopped
- β1 large onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 teaspoon ground cinnamonground
- β1 teaspoon ground cuminground
- β1/2 teaspoon ground gingerground
- β1/2 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/4 teaspoon black pepperto taste
- β2 tablespoons olive oilfor cooking
Instructions

Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the cumin, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the pistachios and stir to combine.

Add 1 cup of water to the pot and bring to a simmer.

Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
