Japanese Chicken Donburi
A classic Japanese dish made with grilled chicken, served over a bed of rice and topped with a sweet and savory sauce.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs chicken breastboneless, skinless
- β2 cups sushi riceJapanese short-grain rice
- β1 cup donburi saucestore-bought or homemade
- β1 bunch green onionsthinly sliced
- β1/4 cup sesame seeds
- β1 cup grated daikonoptional
- β2 tbsp soy sauce
- β1 tbsp brown sugar
- β2 tbsp rice vinegar
- β1 tsp sesame oil

2. Season chicken breast with salt, pepper, and your favorite Japanese seasonings.

3. Grill chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through.

4. Meanwhile, prepare sushi rice according to package instructions.

5. In a small saucepan, combine donburi sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

6. In a large bowl, combine cooked sushi rice, donburi sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to combine.

8. Assemble donburi by placing a scoop of rice onto a plate, followed by a few slices of chicken, and topped with green onions, sesame seeds, and grated daikon (if using).
