Slovakian Bread Casserole
A traditional Slovakian warm bread casserole recipe, perfect for a cold evening. The combination of warm bread and savory ingredients will warm your heart and your belly.
Ingredients
- β1 loaf Slovakian breadpreferably stale or day-old
- β2 cups Flourall-purpose flour
- β1/2 cup Butterunsalted
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 cup Mushroomsbutton or cremini, sliced
- β1 cup Grated cheeseSlovakian cheese or cheddar
- β1 Eggbeaten

Preheat oven to 350Β°F (180Β°C).

Cube the Slovakian bread and place half of it in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened.

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their liquid and start to brown.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and grated cheese.

Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the bread in the baking dish.

Top with the remaining bread cubes and the cooked mushroom mixture.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
