Smoked Potato Gratin
A rich and creamy potato gratin infused with the deep flavor of smoked cheese.
Ingredients
- ●2 pounds, peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
- ●1 cup, grated gruyère cheese, smoked
- ●1/2 cup warm milk
- ●2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ●1 medium, thinly sliced onion
- ●to taste salt
- ●to taste black pepper
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2
In a large saucepan, combine the sliced potatoes and enough cold water to cover them. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes.
- 3
Drain the potatoes and set them aside.
- 4
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned, about 8 minutes.
- 5
In a separate saucepan, combine the grated smoked cheese and warm milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- 6
In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, create a layer of potatoes. Top with a layer of the onion mixture, followed by a layer of the cheese sauce.
- 7
Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a layer of cheese sauce on top.
- 8
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- 9
Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the gratin is hot and bubbly.
- 10
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
