Smoked Pork Tagine
A traditional Slovakian-inspired dish with warm, smoky flavors and tender pork.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Smoked pork shoulder
- β2 tablespoons Olive oil
- β1 medium Onion
- β2 cloves Garlic
- β1 teaspoon Warm paprika
- β1/2 teaspoon Ground cumin
- β1/4 teaspoon Salt
- β1/4 teaspoon Black pepper

Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the smoked pork shoulder on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the pork from the pot and set it aside.

Add the sliced onion to the pot and cook until it's softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for 1 minute.

Add the warm paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper to the pot and cook for 1 minute.

Return the pork to the pot and add enough liquid (such as chicken broth or water) to cover the pork.

Bring the liquid to a simmer, then cover the pot and transfer it to the oven.

Braise the pork in the oven for 2-3 hours, or until it's tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Shred the pork with two forks and serve it hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
