Traditional British Bean Pie
A classic bean pie originating from the UK, made with broad beans and a hint of British flair.
Ingredients
- β250g, fresh or frozen Broad beansFresh or frozen, trimmed
- β1 sheet Shortcrust pastryhomemade or store-bought
- β1 medium, chopped Onion
- βto taste Flaky salt
- βto taste Black pepper
- β2 tbsp Xtra virgin olive oil

Preheat oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

Roll out the shortcrust pastry to a thickness of about 3mm.

Place the pastry into a 20cm pie dish, trimming any excess.

In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.

Add the broad beans to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Season with flaky salt and black pepper to taste.

Pour the bean mixture into the pastry-lined pie dish.

Roll out the remaining pastry to a thickness of about 3mm.

Place the rolled-out pastry on top of the bean mixture, pressing the edges to seal.

Cut a few slits in the top pastry to allow steam to escape.

Brush the top pastry with a little water.

Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
