Braised Jamaican Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew originating from Jamaica, made with tender beef and rich spices.
Ingredients
- β2 lbs Beef hind shankCut into 2-inch pieces
- β2 tbsp Xtra virgin olive oil
- β2 Jamaican scotch bonnet peppersChopped
- β1 large OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1 cup Stew
- β1 tsp Salt
- β1 tsp Black pepper
- β1 tsp Brown sugar

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown beef in batches until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes per batch.

Remove browned beef from pot, set aside.

Reduce heat to medium, add more oil if necessary.

Add onions and cook until they start to caramelize, about 8 minutes.

Add garlic, scotch bonnet peppers, and cook for 1 minute.

Add stew, salt, black pepper, and brown sugar. Stir to combine.

Return browned beef to pot, bring to a boil.

Cover, transfer to oven, and braise at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 2 1/2 hours, or until beef is tender.
