Algerian Chicken Tagine
A classic Algerian dish made with chicken, spices, and dried fruits. This tagine is a hearty and flavorful stew that's perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- β1 pound, boneless and skinless Chicken breastCut into 1-inch pieces
- β2 teaspoons Algerian tagine spice blendAvailable at most Middle Eastern markets
- β1/4 cup Roasted almondsChopped
- β1/4 cup Dried apricotsChopped
- β2 tablespoons Xtra virgin olive oilFor cooking
- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- βto taste Salt

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.

Add more oil if necessary, then add the onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the tagine spice blend and cook for 1 minute.

Add the apricots, almonds, and chicken back to the pot.

Season with salt to taste.

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, until the chicken is cooked through, about 20-25 minutes.
