Uruguayan Empanadas
Traditional Uruguayan empanadas filled with ground meat and onions, served as a snack or light meal.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground Meat80/20 beef to pork ratio
- β1 medium OnionDiced
- β3 cloves Roasted GarlicMinced
- β2 tablespoons Xtra Virgin Olive Oil
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black Pepper
- βhomemade or store-bought Empanada DoughThawed

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the ground meat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Use a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out circles of dough.

Place a tablespoon or two of the meat mixture in the center of each dough circle.

Fold the dough in half to form a half-circle and press the edges together to seal.

Brush the tops with a little water and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
