Tunisian Tagine Bread
A dense and flavorful bread originating from Tunisia, made with yeast and a hint of butter.
Ingredients
- ●1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) yeasty yeastactive dry yeast
- ●3 cups dense all-purpose flourunbleached all-purpose flour
- ●1/4 cup tunisian olive oilfor brushing the dough
- ●2 tablespoons buttermelted for egg wash
- ●1 teaspoon tagine saltor regular salt

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast, 1 cup of warm water, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Let it sit for 5 minutes, until the yeast is activated.

Add the flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the dough for 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until it doubles in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oblong loaf. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet.

Brush the loaf with the melted butter and sprinkle with water.

Bake the bread for 30-40 minutes, until it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
