German Pork Casserole
A hearty German-inspired pork casserole that's easy to prepare and packed with flavor. Perfect for a cold evening meal.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Pork shoulderCut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 large OnionsChopped
- β1 tsp Caraway seeds
- β1 tsp SaltTo taste
- β1/2 tsp Black pepperTo taste
- β1 cup MilkMixed with 1/2 cup water
- β1 cup BreadcrumbsPanko or regular
- β2 tbsp Butter

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large skillet, cook the pork cubes over medium-high heat until browned on all sides.

Add the chopped onions, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook until the onions are softened.

In a separate saucepan, combine the milk and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Stir the breadcrumbs into the milk mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are toasted.

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, arrange half of the cooked pork mixture.

Pour half of the milk-breadcrumb mixture over the pork.

Repeat the layers, starting with the remaining pork mixture, then the remaining milk-breadcrumb mixture.

Dot the top of the casserole with butter.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
