Italian-Style Pork Ramen
A fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors in a hearty pork ramen dish.
Ingredients
- β1 package (8 oz) Japanese ramen noodles
- β2 lbs Pork shoulder
- β2 tbsp Shoyu (Japanese soy sauce)
- β1 large Yellowed onions
- β3 cloves Garlic
- β2 tbsp Olive oil
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black pepper
- βchopped (for garnish) Fresh parsley
Instructions
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the ramen noodles according to package instructions. Reserve 2 cups of pasta water before draining.
- 2
In a large Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes per side. Remove the pork from the pot and set aside.
- 3
Reduce heat to medium and add the sliced onions to the pot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown, about 20 minutes.
- 4
Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- 5
Add the shoyu to the pot and stir to combine.
- 6
Return the pork shoulder to the pot and add enough chicken broth to cover the meat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover the pot and transfer it to the oven.
- 7
Bake the pork in a preheated oven at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 2 1/2 hours, or until tender and easily shredded.
- 8
Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before shredding it into bite-sized pieces.
- 9
Add the cooked noodles to the pot with the onion and garlic mixture. Toss to combine, adding some reserved pasta water if the mixture seems dry.
- 10
Add the shredded pork to the pot and toss to combine.
- 11
Season the ramen with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 12
Serve the Italian-Style Pork Ramen hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley.
