Steak and Atakilt Stir Fry
A Chinese-inspired stir fry combining the bold flavors of Ethiopia with tender steak and crunchy atakilt.
Ingredients
- β1 pound New York steak
- β1 head Atakilt (Ethiopian cabbage)
- β1 Zesty red bell pepper
- β2 teaspoons Ethiopian spices (berbere, niter kibbeh)
- β2 tablespoons Soy sauce
- β2 tablespoons Vegetable oil

Preheat the wok or large skillet to 400Β°F (200Β°C).

Season the steak with salt and pepper.

In a small bowl, mix together the berbere, niter kibbeh, and soy sauce.

Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the preheated wok and add the steak.

Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.

Remove the steak from the wok and set it aside to rest.

In the same wok, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Add the atakilt and zesty red bell pepper to the wok.

Stir-fry the atakilt and bell pepper for 4-5 minutes, or until they are tender.

Return the steak to the wok and stir-fry everything together for 1-2 minutes.
