Dal Makhani
A popular North Indian dish made with black lentils, kidney beans, and a rich creamy sauce. This comforting recipe is perfect for a cold winter's night.
Ingredients
- β1 cup black lentils
- β1 cup kidney beans
- β2 tbsp ghee
- β1 medium onion
- β2 inches ginger
- β1 tsp garam masala
- β1 tsp cumin powder
- β1 tsp salt
- β4 cups water

Rinse the lentils and soak them in water for 30 minutes.

In a large pan, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it is translucent.

Add the ginger and cook for another minute.

Add the cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add the soaked lentils and kidney beans. Cook for 5 minutes.

Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lentils are cooked.

Using a blender or a hand blender, puree some of the lentils to create a creamy sauce.

Return the pan to the stovetop and add the pureed lentils. Stir well to combine.

Simmer the dal for another 10-15 minutes or until it thickens.
