Smoky Skirt Steak Tagine
A hearty Moroccan-inspired stew made with smoky Canadian skirt steak, served with a rich and aromatic sauce.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Skirt steak (Canadian)preferably smoky
- β2 tsp Tagine spice blendor make your own
- β2 tbsp Olive oilfor cooking
- β1 large Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 cup Dried pruneschopped
- β2 cups Chicken brothlow-sodium
- β1 cup Waterfor cooking
- β1 tsp Saltto taste
- β1/2 tsp Black pepperto taste

Preheat oven to 300Β°F (150Β°C).

In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.

Sear the skirt steak until browned on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove the steak from the pot and set it aside.

Reduce heat to medium and add the onion and garlic to the pot. Cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the tagine spice blend, prunes, chicken broth, and water to the pot. Stir to combine.

Return the skirt steak to the pot, making sure it's mostly submerged in the liquid.

Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.

Braise the tagine for 2-3 hours, or until the meat is tender and falls apart easily.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Serve the skirt steak with the rich and aromatic sauce spooned over the top.
