Classic Algerian Chicken Tagine
A traditional North African dish made with chicken, aromatic spices, and sweet ingredients, slow-cooked in a clay pot.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds chicken breastcut into 8 pieces
- β2 tablespoons algerian spice blendor to taste
- β2 tablespoons olive oildivided
- β1/4 cup kissed preserved lemonchopped
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 cup dried apricotschopped
- β1 cup chicken brothlow-sodium
- β2 tablespoons honeyoptional

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large clay pot over medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the algerian spice blend, kissed preserved lemon, and dried apricots.

Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.

Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven.

Bake at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

Stir in the honey, if using.

Serve the chicken and sauce over couscous or rice.
