Traditional Greek Loukoumades with Honey Syrup
A classic Greek dessert consisting of crispy fried dough balls drizzled with a sweet honey syrup. Loukoumades are often served with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey.
Ingredients
- β2 cups All-purpose flour
- β1 teaspoon Baking powder
- β1/4 teaspoon Salt
- β1 cup Sugar
- β1 cup Greek yogurt
- β1/2 cup Honey
- β1/2 cup Vegetable oil
- β12-15 pieces Loukoumades (deep-fried dough balls)Store-bought or homemade
- β1/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

Gradually add the sugar and yogurt to the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.

Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes elastic.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Divide the dough into small pieces, about the size of a small egg.

Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it slightly into a disk shape.

Heat the vegetable oil to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Fry the dough balls in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the loukoumades from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Repeat the frying process with the remaining dough balls.

To make the honey syrup, combine the honey and 1 cup of water in a saucepan.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
