German Cabbage Stew
A hearty and comforting German-inspired stew made with tender cabbage and flavorful meat. Serve with a side of crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beefcut into bite-sized pieces
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 head cabbageshredded
- β1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- β2 cups beef broth
- β1 cup water
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
- β2 tablespoons melted butterfor serving
Instructions

Heat the butter in a large pot over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent, about 3 minutes.

Add the shredded cabbage and cook until it starts to soften, about 5 minutes.

Sprinkle the caraway seeds and flour over the cabbage and stir to combine.

Add the beef broth and water, and bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, until the cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes.
