Canelé French Dessert
Rich, buttery, and crispy Canelé, a traditional French dessert.
Ingredients
- ● 1 1/2 sticks Unsalted Butter, softened
- ● 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- ● 3 large Eggs
- ● 2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
- ● 1 1/4 cups All-purpose Flour
- ● 1/4 cup Canele powder (or substitute with a mixture of 2 Tbsp flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg)
- ● 1/2 cup Heavy Cream, at room temperature
- ● 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar (for caramelizing)

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

Butter a 12-cup muffin tin, then dust it with Canelé powder.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and Canelé powder.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined.

Pour in the heavy cream and mix until smooth.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the Canelés are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from oven and let cool in the tin for 5 minutes.

Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

To caramelize, sprinkle sugar over the top of the cooled Canelés and place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.
