Ethiopian Chicken Doro Wot
A flavorful and spicy Ethiopian chicken stew made with tender chicken, onions, garlic, ginger, and berbere spice.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Chickenboneless, skinless chicken thighs
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β2 inches Gingergrated
- β2 tablespoons Berbere SpiceEthiopian chili powder
- β2 tablespoons Olive Oilfor sautΓ©ing
- β1 teaspoon Saltto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon Black Pepperto taste
Instructions

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the berbere spice, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Add 1 cup of water to the pan and bring to a simmer.

Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

Serve hot over rice or with injera bread.

Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.
