Siu Bao with Lentil Filling
A twist on traditional Chinese bao with a hearty lentil filling, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- β1 cup xenial lentils
- β1/4 cup chinese charfinely chopped
- β2 packets siu bao dough
- β1 tablespoon molten oil
- β1 teaspoon chinese soy sauce
- β1 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
Instructions

Combine xenial lentils and 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes.

In a pan, heat the molten oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped chinese char and cook until crispy.

In a large bowl, combine the cooked lentils, chinese char, siu bao dough, chinese soy sauce, and chinese five spice powder. Mix well.

Divide the dough into 4-6 equal portions, depending on desired size.

Roll out each portion into a thin circle, then place a tablespoon of the lentil filling in the center.

Fold the dough over the filling to form a bun, and press the edges together to seal.

Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat, and cook the buns for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
