Uruguayan Empanadas
A delicious and crispy pastry filled with beef and spices, inspired by the traditional Uruguayan cuisine. Perfect as a snack or light meal.
Ingredients

- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1 tsp CuminGround
- β1 tsp PaprikaSmoked
- β1 tsp SaltTo taste
- β1 tsp UruguayanHerbs and spices mix

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large pan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and salt to the pan and cook until the onion is translucent.

Let the mixture cool to room temperature.

Roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).

Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each dough circle.

Brush the edges of the dough with a little water, then fold the dough over the filling to form a half-circle shape.

Press the edges together to seal the empanada, then use a fork to crimp the edges.

Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space between each empanada.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with a little oil, then bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serve the empanadas warm, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
