Argentinian Apple Empanadas
Warm and crispy empanadas filled with tender apples and a hint of cinnamon, inspired by the flavors of Argentina.
Ingredients
- β2 large Apples
- β2 cups All-purpose flour
- β1 cup Granulated sugar
- β1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
- β1/4 cup Lard or shortening
- β1 Egg
- β1 tablespoon Water
- βoptional Confectioners' sugar

Combine flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.

Add lard or shortening and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add the egg and water, mixing until a dough forms.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Peel and slice the apples into thin wedges.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Use a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out circles of dough.

Place a few apple wedges in the center of each dough circle and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape.

Press the edges together to seal the empanada and use a fork to crimp.

Brush the tops with a little water and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, if desired.

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
